Wanderlust Weekly: Hey Joshua congrats on the growth of Glide Training Co.! What inspired its creation? Joshua Kober: I have always been interested in sports, training, and helping people to overcome barriers to achieve goals. While working as the training manager of a studio in San Diego, I started a running group for clients who wished to train for races and find another social setting for fitness. Eventually the group grew in numbers so much that I recruited my, at the time, co-worker Lisa Saunders to assist in coaching; specifically for injury prevention and treatment. Our members loved our training programs and our energy. They were committed and also thankful for all the efforts we made. It was because of this following and constant push from our members to open our own studio that myself and Lisa began searching for a location. We knew that if we truly wanted to assist people in reaching their goals to the magnitude we knew we were capable we would need to find a location and brand ourselves.
Wanderlust Weekly: You've built a strong community following in San Diego, what are some of your proudest moments? Joshua Kober: I have memories in Glide's history that I can recall that not only made me proud, but also changed my view of myself and my capabilities. The first was the pre-race dinner Lisa and I hosted for our runners competing in the 2015 San Diego Half Marathon. I stood before them and gave an inspirational speech that focused on positivity, mindset, and "gliding" (we weren't named glide yet) through the finish line. It was during that moment when my faith in each of them was visible in each of their eyes looking up at me that I knew I was doing something special for them. The second was the day Lisa and I opened the doors at Glide Training Co. We had a couple clients who transitioned with us the first day. To celebrate we went to dinner at a nearby restaurant in our new neighborhood of little Italy. While sitting their together I recalled to Lisa a story of when I first moved back to San Diego and picked up a couple clients and a job at a nearby studio. I drove around the metro area and researched studios all throughout the country. What I found was an idea being used in higher population cities like New York and San Francisco and I wanted to bring to San Diego. The idea of a live work space where I live up above and train people on the bottom level. I could literally show people how to live an active lifestyle while also being a professional at what I do. Fast forward 3.5 years and Lisa and I have now accomplished this together. It took until we had a night out to dinner for me to realize I was living out a dream at had been working towards for over three years. It also took having Lisa there to both keep my lofty goals and ideas in line as well as give me the confidence that I knew what I was doing.
Wanderlust Weekly: Entrepreneurs are constantly creating, what upcoming news or developments can we look forward to? Joshua Kober: Glide TC is mesomorphic in that we always look to change our classes and exercise routines but retain our identity as a performance training studio. We want people to be their best both in health and in life. We are currently looking to add some contemporary yoga classes this new year. We are also partnering with the owners of Pearl Street Fitness, Scott and Laura St. John, for a weight loss challenge through the holidays. We also just became Isagenix associates and look to integrate their great supplement line into nutrition programming. Being only 6 months old, we know we have a lot to learn but can't help but walk tall with confidence knowing we will always deliver a quality product through attention to detail, an great understanding of the human body, and by possessing outstanding abiding motivational techniques to help take our clients TO THE TOP!
